One of the big benefits of PerfectDisk is its boot time defrag capability, which is able to defragment files that otherwise would remain fragmented. These are files such as the Windows pagefile.sys or the file system’s MFT (Master File Table). Your typical run-of-the-mill defrag utility or freeware utility won’t touch these files. Without PerfectDisk, you won’t get a boot time defrag, and the result is not the best disk defrag possible. You want faster PC performance, and part of faster PC performance is a thorough boot time defrag.
Now, a boot time defrag can be a little tricky, which is why you typically don’t see it in standard utilities. PerfectDisk employs a sophisticated locking mechanism to ensure the defrag is done safely. There have been instances where the boot time defrag was unable to run because of conflicts with other applications’ drivers. With the upcoming PerfectDisk 12, we have made significant enhancements to the boot time defrag locking mechanism. This greatly improves driver compatibility when locking drives, and leads to a much smoother boot time defrag operation. Internal and external testing has verified that these conflicts have been virtually eliminated.
