We recently had a Half Life 2 user with very large GCFs (Game Cache Files) that were so big the Windows defragmenter was struggling severely. Now, as you may know, space for GCFs is reserved and content subsequently downloaded to fill it. This process is intended to minimize fragmentation, which it may do initially. But they do fragment, and since they can be big, Half Life 2 players don’t like that.
