Are You Running the Wrong Edition of PerfectDisk?
As many of our customers who know the PerfectDisk brand make the transition from physical servers to virtualized servers, they aren’t necessarily aware of the critical difference between PerfectDisk Server and PerfectDisk vSphere or PerfectDisk Hyper-V.
Knowing the difference in the capabilities of these solutions can mean a choice between productivity-stifling I/O bottlenecks and an efficiently-run operation with a major return on investment.
PerfectDisk Server is the best solution for optimizing physical server performance but if you’re running servers in a virtualized setting, read on… Continue reading
VMware reaffirms PerfectDisk’s Elite status
A few years ago, Raxco Software introduced the industry’s first VMware optimization technology with PerfectDisk 2008. The market was moving to virtualization, and many of our customers told us that they either needed at the time, or would soon, a PerfectDisk solution that took into account the various intricacies of virtualization.
The following year saw the release of the PerfectDisk 10 family of products that included the industry’s first ever, centrally manageable defragmentation client that was both aware of its virtual existence and able to dynamically adjust its resource consumption behavior with respect to its physical server load — Virtual Awareness. Continue reading
PerfectDisk 12 defrag reviewed
Aleksey Fingerut is editor of the ”Domashny PK” magazine in Ukraine, and also contributes to a related blog based out of Russia. Aleksey has taken an initial look and test of PerfectDisk 12, and has published initial thoughts at the publication’s online site. The context of the review is PerfectDisk compared with Diskeeper(R).
One key point from Fingerut — if a defragmenter is not preventing fragmentation, it’s obsolete, which leaves just PerfectDisk and Diskeeper.
Here are the general points from the review, in case you don’t read Ukranian: Continue reading
PerfectDisk is Utility of the Year
Through the years, we’ve been proud and honored to receive numerous awards and accolades from the likes of Computerworld. Information Week, Windows IT Pro Magazine, Redmond Magazine, eWeek, PC Magazine, PC World, and more. The honors typically vary according to a publication’s or site’s grouping, but fall under categories like disk defrag utility or performance or storage software. They have their categories, they match one or 2 PerfectDisk components to the category, and make the award or write the column. Continue reading
Fragmentation prevention — the next generation
Years ago, Raxco Software obtained a patent from the United States Patent and Trademark Office for a disk optimization strategy we all know as SMARTPlacement. SMARTPlacement organizes the files on a drive according to a user’s unique usage patterns. The result is a drive that is not only defragmented, but is optimized for the user. Free space is consolidated into the largest chunks possible. A benefit of this is that when a new file is created, the chances are much greater that the file is created contiguously- that is, not fragmented. Continue reading
Raxco is Microsoft Gold Partner (again) for 2011
We know there are options out there to defrag a computer other than PerfectDisk. Now, when you just want to defrag a file (or files) rather than an entire drive, or defrag metadata, or defrag Exchange, or defrag SQL, there are fewer options. If you want to defrag system files or effectively defrag Windows 7, the options narrow again. Perform intelligent vSphere defrag and Hyper-V defrag to efficiently improve vSphere performance and Hyper-V performance? Your choices really narrow. Continue reading
Christopher Columbus and disk defrag
Today, many are celebrating Christopher Columbus Day here in the United States. Those celebrating the day may not be contemplating what Columbus did, but they at least had a day off from work or school, and a long weekend. Despite popular lore, Columbus did not discover America, even if you take into account Native Americans. Nor did he come up with the notion that the world is not flat, although many think he did.
But if he or others did not overcome popular myths, then who knows what history would have brought. And the same goes for disk defragmentation. If PerfectDisk did not come around, just think of some of the popular myths that might still be in vogue… Continue reading
ESX and vSphere defrag
We’re receiving more and more inquiries on disk defragmentation for ESX, vSphere and Hyper-V. As IT professionals become more immersed in virtualization, they are beginning to understand how performing vSphere defrag, for example, can lead to vastly improved virtualization performance. It’s not only that fragmentation is a problem in virtual environments because it’s the same ol’ NTFS file system. Fragmentation can be an even greater problem when looking at the relationship of host and guests. IO throughput is the big issue here, and that’s where defragmentation can make a big impact on virtualization performance. Continue reading
