PerfectDisk Case Study: Improving Virtualization Performance

When an Economic Slowdown Hurts Operational Efficiency

Due to layoffs forced by a weakened economy, Americall lost many technical engineers and administrative staff, resulting in severely fragmented disks and diminished performance across all servers because disk defragmentation had always been done manually. Slowed access to data and applications had a significantly negative impact on Americall employee productivity. Continue reading

PerfectDisk 12 out of the gates

It’s been a crazy, hectic — in a good way — week here at Raxco, as the launch of PerfectDisk 12 got underway Wednesday morning. While we prepared for an onslaught of activity, what we experienced and continue to experience exceeded even our optimistic expectations. Visitors to our website and downloads of PerfectDisk have been up over 15% over last year’s PerfectDisk 11 launch over the first 2 days. Continue reading

Thin provisioning and short stroke

You know we’ve always liked to talk about the importance of free space consolidation, which in many ways is as important as file defragmentation in recapturing and maintaining fast PC performance. Today I wanted to address free space consolidation as it relates to thin provisioning and virtualization performance. Continue reading

Virtualization performance — PerfectDisk vSphere review

Our user community is a critical part of the success Raxco has enjoyed over the years. They honor us with their business, complain when we do something they don’t like, and overall make us better with the dialog they generate with us, to improve what we do. ESX and vSphere defrag

We’re receiving more and more inquiries on disk defragmentation for ESX, vSphere and Hyper-V. As IT professionals become more immersed in virtualization, they are beginning to understand how performing vSphere defrag, for example, can lead to vastly improved virtualization performance. It’s not only that fragmentation is a problem in virtual environments because it’s the same ol’ NTFS file system. Fragmentation can be an even greater problem when looking at the relationship of host and guests. IO throughput is the big issue here, and that’s where defragmentation can make a big impact on virtualization performance. Continue reading
